Our Story
Faith. Family. Purpose. The story behind Lumiere Vive.
Where It Began
We both grew up in Gilbert, Arizona. We met at 18, married at 20 in 2006, and welcomed our first child at 21, young, hopeful, and learning to trust God with our path ahead.
In 2016, our family’s journey toward faith, creativity, and purpose took a turn we never expected. At the time, we had three boys, Jayden, Julian, and Jameson, and were overjoyed to learn that our fourth baby was a girl, Joselyn Mae. Tragically, Joselyn was born stillborn at 24 weeks. Her short life changed ours forever.
In the midst of heartbreak, I felt called to honor her memory. That calling became Joss & J Boutique, “Joss” for Joselyn and “J” for our boys. We opened our first location in Gilbert, Arizona, in 2016. Just a year later, we experienced another miscarriage at 10 weeks. Yet through loss, God kept bringing light. In 2018 our double rainbow baby Josephine was born, followed by Jagger in 2020.
In 2021, we moved to Texas to help open the first Barro’s Pizza location in the state. Matt had been working with his family’s company his entire life, and we were excited for the journey ahead. We opened our second Joss & J location in McKinney, Texas, in 2022, followed by the birth of our sixth baby, Juliette.
In October of 2022, our son Jagger, then two years old, suffered a sudden pediatric brain stroke after slipping and falling following a bath. His body became partially paralyzed. He was rushed to the NICU in Dallas. The seizures wouldn’t stop, and doctors weren’t sure he would make it through the night.
But even in that darkness, God met us there. We prayed like never before. Miracle after miracle: Jagger began to move, then walk, then laugh again. That season forever deepened our trust in the Lord. We learned that even in moments of deep pain and uncertainty, His light never leaves us. It was a turning point for our family.
We had already signed a Plano warehouse (keys received February 2023) for pickup and shipping. As Joss & J grew, I became overwhelmed without enough staff, working from the moment I woke up to when I fell asleep. Matt gradually pulled back from Barro’s to support the boutique. While the business was thriving outwardly, we made some hard financial choices, taking quick loans to fund large orders. Interest mounted quickly, and before long we were paying over $50,000 per month in payments. After much stress and many prayers, we decided it was best to close the boutique. After eight years, we humbly announced our closure, trusting God with what was next.
In 2024, after more prayer, we moved to Virginia for four months, a peaceful reset where our family re-centered on Jesus, together and unhurried. In October 2024, we moved back to Arizona, this time to North Phoenix ready to plant new roots and follow where God was leading, close to the family and friends we love.
Redeemed & Restored
Like many couples, we’ve faced valleys. Not long ago, our marriage nearly ended. We separated for six weeks and prayed to Jesus the entire time. In His mercy, our hearts were softened and our covenant was restored. We do not take our marriage for granted, we have been through the trenches and have been redeemed. Christ is central to our home and this studio. If you’re struggling, please know: we see you, we feel with you, and we will gladly pray for you.
Becoming Lumiere Vive
After our short season in Virginia and our move back to Arizona, we felt called to begin again, not as a replacement for Joss & J, but as a continuation of its heart: that beauty can rise from ashes and light can shine even in loss.
That’s how Lumiere Vive was born. Meaning “Bright Light” in French, the name represents our mission: to reflect God’s light through faith-driven creativity, family, and purpose. Everything we create, boutique and custom, is designed to bring encouragement, hope, and joy.
Today, Lumiere Vive remains a family-run studio, built on prayer and perseverance. Matt supports behind the scenes, while continuing to serve with his family’s business, Barro’s Pizza. Our children, Jayden (18), Julian (16), Jameson (13), Josephine (7), Jagger (5), and Juliette (3), each play a role in bringing this vision to life. This business reflects our family’s story: faith, love, resilience, and light.
Our Mission
We believe in creating with meaning, every design, every piece of apparel, every collaboration. Whether you find us through our boutique or our custom printing studio, we hope you feel seen, encouraged, and inspired to let your own light shine.
